Creator, Studio, and Lifetime users get 96 kHz / 24-bit uncompressed WAV audio on the desktop app — the same quality used in professional studios. Starter and web sessions run at 48 kHz. Video is H.264 — up to 4K on Creator, Studio, and Lifetime, and 1080p on Starter — captured as separate per-participant tracks ready for any editor.

Solo recording works completely offline on the desktop app — perfect for on-location shoots or areas with spotty WiFi. Remote guest sessions and live cloud backup need an internet connection, but if your connection drops mid-session your local master keeps recording at full quality and the cloud backup picks up where it left off when you're back online.

Today, every recording exports as MP4 (H.264 video) — one video file per camera. The desktop and iOS apps also write a separate WAV (PCM audio) master per microphone, saved to your own device; browser recordings carry their audio inside the MP4. Additional export formats like ProRes and FLAC are on the roadmap but not shipping yet.

Creator, Studio, and Lifetime include progressive cloud backup. While you record, an encrypted copy of your video is streamed to your private cloud library so the recording is recoverable if your laptop crashes, restarts, or runs out of disk. Where a take produces a WAV master — the desktop and iOS apps, as described above — it is always written to your own device; backing that copy up to the cloud as well is a workspace setting you can turn on in your account, since it roughly doubles how much of your monthly allowance that take uses. Backups are TLS in transit and encrypted at rest in Google Cloud Storage. The Starter plan records locally only — no cloud backup.

Recordings in your Library stay there for 30 days from the day they're saved, and plans with custom retention can set their own window — per workspace, or per capture request. Multi-participant session uploads land in a 7-day transit bucket so the host can collect everyone's tracks; once you save a session to your Library, the 30-day clock starts. Download links can be re-issued at any time from the Library — there's no separate link-expiry to worry about as long as the recording is still in your Library.

Yes. Creator hosts sessions with up to 4 participants — you plus 3 guests. Studio raises that to 8 (you plus 7), and adds a shared workspace where members can host their own sessions. Each participant runs Capturly and records locally at full quality.

Creator is for one person recording — solo, or interviewing guests who join from a browser. Studio is for crews and agencies where several people host, produce, or collect recordings. Studio includes everything in Creator, plus a pooled 1 TB cloud transfer quota for your whole workspace, admin controls with roles (Admin / Editor / Viewer), an audit log, capture requests, the API, and a persistent studio room (see below). Yes, that is what capture requests are for. You write a prompt, then send each person a personal link or share one open link. They record in their browser on whatever device they have, with no app and no account, and the original file lands in your library along with the release they accepted. Capture requests are included with Studio.

Yes, on Studio and above. You can create capture requests and recording sessions over a REST API, subscribe to signed webhooks so you are told when a recording lands rather than polling for it, and download the masters with the capture manifest attached. There is also a JavaScript SDK for embedding the recorder in your own product. See capturly.app/platform.

A Studio is a persistent recording room with its own bookmark-able URL. Instead of generating a new invite link every time, your guests join the same room on every recording — they bookmark it once and you keep using it week after week. Studios include host management, a waiting room for guest approval, and per-studio defaults like join mode and welcome message. Available on Studio — one studio per workspace.

A persistent room is designed for recurring shows where guests need a stable URL they can bookmark once and reuse for every episode.
